March 25, 2016

Final Stats

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team dropped a pair of games Friday afternoon versus the Liberty Flames. Coastal attempted a comeback in game one, but fell 6-4. The Flames defeated the Chanticleers 2-0 in game two of the afternoon.

The Chanticleers are 15-16 on the season and will close out the Liberty series Saturday afternoon. Due to threatening weather, tomorrow's game will be moved up to a noon first pitch.

Mackenzie Conrad, who had missed time due to injury, was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in her first game back to lead CCU in game one. Bri Chiusano went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI double while Taty Forbes added two hits.

In the first inning of game one, Chiusano hit a leadoff single and Morgan Noad singled to place runners on first and second. Conrad hit the first pitch she saw to center field for an RBI double to propel Chiusano to the plate for a 1-0 lead.

The Flames responded when Sarah Robertson hit a two-run home run over the center field fence in the top of the second. Liberty added another run in the frame on an RBI single by Jaclyn Amader to jump ahead 3-1.

The teams traded zeroes until the top of the fifth when Liberty added three runs off of Alexia Taylor's three-run home run to give Liberty a 6-1 advantage.

Coastal cut its deficit to three in the bottom of the fifth. Chiusano, Forbes and Dominik each singled to load the bases with two outs. Conrad RBI singled to plate both Chiusano and Forbes, minimalizing the gap to 6-3. However, Liberty's Julia DiMartino (6-5) induced a ground out to end the inning and limit the damage.

The Chanticleers added a run in the bottom of the sixth. After Kailey Mellen was walked, Chiusano delivered an RBI double to provide the final score of 6-4.

Kelsey Dominik (10-9) suffered the loss. She pitched a complete game allowing nine hits and six runs with five strikeouts.

In game two, Coastal out-hit Liberty 4-to-3, but the Flames pushed runs across in the fourth and fifth innings to claim the 2-0 win.

In the bottom of the third, Coastal's Mellen drew a leadoff walked, Angela Buccilli singled and Chiusano was hit by a pitch to load the bases in the bottom of the third with one out. However, Liberty's Chandler Ball managed to dig her way out of the jam by inducing two fly outs to end the inning.

The Flames broke the scoreless draw in the top of the fourth. Rylee Reynolds hit a sac fly to send Robertson to the plate for a 1-0 lead. Liberty added another run in the top of the fifth. Madison Kotchey hit a sac bunt to to put runners on second and third. Then, Alexia Taylor came through with a sac fly to drive Jaclyn Amader home and provide the eventual 2-0 finale score.
