Chants Finish Strong at UNF Spring Break Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Coastal's throwers led the way during the second day of competition in the UNF Spring Break Invitational at the University of North Florida, as Devontaye Edwards won the men's discus and set a new CCU school record with a throw of 52.80m (173-03).

The Chants had two more top-10 finishers in the event, with Ryan Minor (43.89m, 144-00) placing sixth and Kieran Moore (42.57m, 139-08) taking eighth. Moore set a new personal-best mark with his throw. Robert Castellani also won the men's javelin with a throw of 60.28m (197-09). Cody Wilde came in third in the event, setting a new personal-best mark of 53.39m (175-02).

Additionally, Coastal's team of Jerome Coaxum Jr., Deion Wellington, Tre Stanley and Braylon Wilkerson took first-place in the men's 4x400-meter relay. Their winning time of 3:10.01 is the fourth-fastest in CCU school history.

Coastal also had three student-athletes quality for the finals of the men's 110-meter hurdles. Kevondre' Hunt finished second and set a new personal-best mark with a time of 14.28, Dee Jennings crossed the finish line at 14.78 to take fifth and Desmond Wallace advanced to the finals after tallying a time of 14.35 in the prelims.

Hunt now ranks third all-time for Coastal in the men's 110-meter hurdles.

In other action, Kahlim Denmark placed eighth in the men's 100-meter dash after crossing the finish line at 10.75. He was the first collegiate finisher in the event, as the top seven featured unattached athletes and and runners from the Brazilian Olympic Committee.

Elsewhere, Coastal's team of Teka Simpson, Anacia Hines, Karissa Lunn and Kelila Naules finished fourth in the women's 4x100-meter relay, with an impressive mark of 45.79. Their time was a season-best in the event.

On the men's side of the 4x100-meter relay, Coastal's team of Denmark, Chiason Tenkiang, Ryan McCain and Therius Styles scored a fourth-place finish with a time of 40-91. They were the second collegiate team to finish, as Brazilian Olympic Committee squads took first and second place.

Coastal also sent several distance runners to compete at this weekend's Raleigh Relays. SEE HERE for full results from that meet.

Coastal travels to High Point, N.C., next weekend for the VertKlasse Meeting. Action is set for April 1 and 2 at Vert Track, Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium at High Point University.
