March 4, 2016 Final Stats
HONOLULU, HI. - Morgan Noad's three-run home run in the first inning led Coastal Carolina's softball team to an 8-3 victory over Stanford Friday afternoon.
Coastal improved to 8-8 on the season and will continue play later today as they take on host, Hawaii at 7:00 p.m. HT (midnight EST).
Noad finished the game going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored while Mackenzie Conrad was 3-for-3 with a home run and a total of two RBI.
Leading off for the Chants in the first, Bri Chiusano (2-for-4) and Taty Forbes (2-for-4) each singled. Then, with runners on second and third, Noad hit her fifth home run of the season to give CCU an early 3-0 in the bottom of the first.
Stanford answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second after a homer from Kylie Sorenson closing the Chanticleer lead to 3-2.
Coastal regained a two-run lead (4-2) in the bottom of the third as Conrad homered to center. Kelsey Dominik (2-for-3) started the fifth inning with a single to left field. Cassidy Brzozowski came on to pinch run and advanced to second on Annie Robinson's sac bunt. Conrad drove in Brzozowski with an RBI single to left field to give the Chants a 5-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, pinch hitter Mari Cook was walked before by a base hit from Chiusano. Noad singled to center field to load the bases for the Chants. Dominik hit a two-run single to left field pushing Coastal to a 7-2 advantage. Two batters later, Adriana Toro hit an RBI single to left field, plating Noad to take an 8-2 lead.
Stanford's Arden Pettit provided the 8-3 final score with a solo home run in the top of the seventh. Dominik pitched a complete game and improved to 4-6 on the season. She scattered three hits and allowed three runs (one earned) with a walk and five strikeouts.
