Chanticleers Stun Hawai'i 14-4 in Five

HONOLULU, HI. - After exploding for 10 runs in the fourth inning, the Coastal Carolina softball team took an insurmountable lead over Hawaii to earn a 14-4 victory Tuesday evening.

Coastal (9-12) will return home to host the Chanticleer Challenge on Friday, March 11. The Chants will welcome Furman, Buffalo and Memphis this weekend.

Bri Chiusano, Taty Forbes and Angela Buccilli each had three hits to led the team with Chiusano contributing three RBIs and four runs scored as well.

Coastal took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Chiusano (3-for-3) and Forbes (3-for-4) started the game with back-to-back singles. Then, with two outs, Mackenzie Conrad singled to right field to send Chiusano to the plate.

Hawaii answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first off a two-run sinlge by Rachel Lack.

The Chanticleers regained the lead in the top of the second, scoring three runs off of four hits. Buccilli (3-for-3) doubled then, Chiusano tripled to right field, plating Buccilli to tie it up at two apiece. Forbes singled through the left side sending home Chiusano and pushing Coastal to a 3-2 advantage. Forbes took second on a passed ball and scored on a Morgan Noad double to left field for a 4-2 CCU lead.

A two-run double from Hawaii's Breanna Ojala tied it up 4-4 in the bottom of the third.

Coastal took an impressive lead in the fourth, stunning Hawaii with 10 runs for a 14-4 lead. With bases loaded, Noad walked to send Buccilli home and regain the lead, 5-4. Kelsey Dominik reached on an error to allow both Chiusano and Forbes to score and put the Chants up by three (7-4). The Chants would load the bases with two outs before Alexis Alvino singled up the middle to drive in Dominik and double the lead, 8-4. Kailey Mellen was then hit by the pitch forcing in pinch runnner Timi Tooley to make it nine runs for the Chants. Buccilli continued the roll, singling down the left field line and driving in Annie Robinson (10-4). Chiusano capped the scoring. With bases loaded, she hit a two-run single to right field and both Alvino and Chiusano scored on the play thanks to a Hawaii fielding error.

Dominik pitched a full 5.0 innings and improved to 5-7 on the season. She scattered six hits and allowed four runs (three earned) with a two walks and two strikeouts.
