Men Finish Second, Women Fourth at Bill Carson Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina's men's track and field team finished second overall in the Bill Carson Invitational at East Carolina University, wrapping up an impressive weekend of action with 153.50 points, only 10.5 points behind East Carolina and well-ahead of third-place finisher -- Sun Belt Conference member Troy.

On the women's side, CCU finished in fourth-place with 96.33 points. After opening the weekend with solid showings in the field, Coastal got Day Two off to a rollicking start with a first-place finish in the men's 100-meter dash, as Therius Styles crossed the finish line at 10.47, a new personal best mark. His time is best in the Big South this season.

The Chants had another top eight finisher in the event, with Kahlim Denmark (10.53) placing fourth. Kyla van Graan reigned supreme in the women's 3000-meter run, turning in a winning time of 9:57.75. Teka Simpson finished seventh in the women's 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line at 11.94. Simpson (25.08) also placed seventh in the women's 200-meter dash. Coastal scored a victory on the men's side of the 200-meter dash, as Kahlim Denmark had the winning time of 21.25. Styles was just behind him at No. 2, finishing at 21.53.

In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Desmond Wallace (13.83) finished first with a season-best time, and Kevondre' Hunt (14.42) placed third. Coastal had two top-8 finishers in the men's 400-meter dash, as Braylon Wilkerson (48.81) finished second and Deion Wellington (49.16) placed third. In other action, Jackie Brengel scored a fourth-place finish and set a new personal best in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, delivering a mark of 11:58.15. Elsewhere, Alesia Muklebust placed tenth and set a new personal-best mark with a time of 10:41.71 in the women's 3000-meter run. On the men's side of the 3000-meter steeplechase, Zach Hensel finished third with a time of 10:18.72.

In the women's 4x100-meter relay, Coastal's team of Simpson, Karissa Lunn, Anacia Hines and Kelila Naules finished second, with a time of 46.31. CCU's men also had a solid showing in the 4x100-meter relay, as Kahlim Denmark, Styles, Ryan McCain and Chiason Tenkiang finished second with a time of 40.86. Coastal had a pair of top finishers in the women's 1500-meter run, with Aynslee van Graan (4:34.63) taking first and Lisha Van Onselen (4:51.47) placing fourth. Van Graan also had a strong showing in the women's 800-meter run, as she finished second with a time of 2:16.26. Coastal's Imani Boatwright placed third in the women's 800-meter, crossing the finish line at 2:17.56.

On the men's side of the 1500-meter run, Riaz Tyler placed seventh with a time of 4:08.44. Additionally, Charles Bascom took sixth in the men's 800-meter, crossing the finish line at 1:56.20. Coastal also dominated both in the men's and women's 400-meter hurdles, with Jerome Coaxum (53.56) scoring a first-place finish, Tre Stanley (53.92) placing third and Rozelle Meier (1:03.89) finishing third on the women's side.

Elsewhere, Anacia Hines (14.44) finished seventh in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Emma Kroger picked up a second-place finish in the women's pole vault, turning in a mark of 3.68m (12-00.75). Brinson Corn placed fifth in the men's pole vault, cruising in with a launch of 4.45m (14-07.25). In the women's long jump, Kelsey Briggs finished third and set a new season-best mark with a jump of 5.68m (18-07.75). Coastal had a pair of top-8 finishers on the men's side of the long jump, as Marquez Moore (6.98m, 22-11.00) placed fifth and Deandre Baker (6.74m, 22-01.50) finished eighth.

In the men's shot put, Zach Bolton finished sixth with a mark of 15.00m (49-02.50). In the women's triple jump, Courtney Lawson (11.52m, 37-09.50) finished fifth and Veneshia Holmes (11.24m, 36-10.50) placed seventh.

Coastal travels to High Point, N.C., on April 15 for the Big South Challenge Cup.
