Coastal Downs Asheville, Advances to Conference Semifinals

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The third-seeded Coastal Carolina women's tennis team downed #6 UNC Asheville 4-1 on Saturday at Liberty's Cook Tennis Center to advance to Sunday's semifinals of the Big South Championship.
The Chanticleers' (18-6) semifinal opponent will be #2 Winthrop, who swept#7 Gardner-Webb, 4-0, in the quarterfinals. The Chants and Eagles will square off at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Coastal took an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point on courts one and three.
The Chants' top pairing of Libby Scott and Sara Bondar took the first half of the point with a 6-2 win over Kylee Shipley and Hannah Francisco, and Laura Mary and Natalie Wall finished it off with a 6-3 victory on the third court.
Cari Berry delivered the first singles point for the Chants, recording a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4.
Shipley then cut Coastal's lead to one, topping Bondar in straight sets on the fifth court.
Wall responded at No. 3 with a three-set win over Lauren Brooker, and Babayan sealed the match with a tough 7-5, 7-5 victory against Christin Louw at No. 6.
