NINETY-SIX - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team concluded its 2015-16 season with a ninth place finish (302-299-307=908) at the Big South Championships, played at the par 72, 7.120-yard Patriot Golf Club.
The league also announced its postseason honors on Tuesday with Coastal Carolina's Olle Widegren being named to the Big South All-Academic team. The junior carries a 3.658 GPA and is majoring in marketing.
Liberty won the team title with a 54-hole score of 853 while Charleston Southern's Austin James, ranked 17th in the NCAA, was the individual medalist after shooting an 11-under par 205 (68-68-69).
Ryan Carpenter led Coastal as he carded a final-round 77 and finished in a tie for 18th (75-70-77=222). He was 6-over at the turn, but was 1-under on his back nine to shoot a 35 thanks to three birdies with two bogeys.
Thadd Obecny II and Luis Ruiz led the Chants in the final round, each shooting a 4-over 76. Obecny tied for 30th with a 54-hole score of 227 (79-72-76=337). Ruiz tied for 44th. He led the squad with 14 pars in the final round while posting two double bogeys, a bogey and a birdie. He finished with a three=day score of 233 (78=79=76).
Widegren tied for 40th with a 54-hole total of 231 (75-78-78) while Alfredo Ruiz finished in 48th with a score of 238 (74-84-80).
