April 5, 2016 CONWAY - Coastal Carolina senior midfielder Charlotte O'Leary has been named the Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman midfielder Haley Alexander has been selected as the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played March 28-April 3, the league announced Tuesday.
O'Leary and Alexander are the first Chanticleers to earn Big South Player of the Week honors in the 2016 season.
O'Leary notched a hat trick and added an assist in Coastal's 17-4 victory against Presbyterian last Wednesday. Additionally, she won five draw controls, scooped a ground ball and caused a turnover. Later in the week, she tallied a game-high four goals in the Chants' 11-10 overtime win over Liberty. The standout senior had an all-around solid game, as she lifted Coastal to victory by scooping two ground balls and winning three draw controls. Through 10 games, the Holdernesss, N.H., native ranks second on the Chants with 19 goals.
Alexander, a freshman from Bel Air, Md., helped Coastal go 2-0 this week by tallying seven points and impressing defensively. In CCU's win over Presbyterian, she notched a hat trick, scooped three ground balls, won a draw control and caused a turnover.
On Saturday against Liberty, Alexander scored two goals, won a draw control and added two assists, while chipping in defensively with a caused turnover and two scooped ground balls. She ranks fourth on Coastal with 10 goals, and fifth with 18 points.
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Loren Day (Campbell), Emily Meier (High Point), Katy Pridemore (Liberty), Katie McHugh (Longwood) and Danielle Ellis (Winthrop).
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Annie Pazulski (Campbell), Molly Andrews (High Point), Kayla Foster (Liberty) and Cassie Angeles (Longwood).
The Chants are back in action April 6 at 7 p.m., as they host Campbell.
