Coastal Faces Winthrop in Big South Semifinals

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina University lacrosse team faces the Winthrop Eagles on Thursday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2016 Big South Women's Lacrosse Championships.

Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. at Winthrop University's Eagle Field.

Coastal (11-6) went 5-3 in Big South play during the regular season to earn the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament. Winthrop (18-2) scored the No. 1 seed and hosting rights to the tournament semifinals and finals after posting an 8-0 record in Big South action.

As an official Big South Conference postseason event, there will be a $5 admission charge for spectators, $3 for seniors and children, $2 for college students and free for kids age two and under.

Ticket sales will be located at the Eagle Field Main Entrance. All spectators must enter and exit through the main gate. Per Conference policy, no past list for the Big South Lacrosse Championship is available. The ticket box office at Eagle Field is cash only. For more information, call 803-323-2345.

Stover Heats Up; Carr Drives Offense

  • Junior goalkeeper Jenna Stover has been red-hot of late, propelling the Chants to a three-game win streak with impressive performances against Radford, Vermont and Liberty.
  • Stover has started in net in all 17 of Coastal's games this season. She has notched an overall record of 11-6.
  • Junior midfielder Maggie Carr leads the Chants with 28 assists in 17 appearances.
  • Carr tallied a goal and added two assists in Coastal's win over Liberty last weekend in the Big South quarterfinals.

  • The winner of the No. 4 Coastal/No. 1 Winthrop game will advance to face the winner of No. 2 High Point vs. No. 3 Campbell, on Saturday, May 7 at 12 p.m. at Winthrop.
