Kitchen Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American

TUCSON, Ariz. - Coastal Carolina relief pitcher Austin Kitchen has been named a 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, it was announced Wednesday.

Kitchen becomes the ninth Chanticleer in program history to be named a freshman All-American, and third in the last four seasons following Seth Lamando (2013) and Bobby Holmes (2015).

A lefthander from Pittsburgh, Pa., Kitchen made 21 appearances this season and started the second game of Coastal's final regular-season series against Campbell.

Kitchen had several notable performances throughout the season, including appearances in Coastal's shutouts versus High Point on April 25 and at Charleston Southern on May 15. The CSU game included a three-inning save for the freshman.

Prior to making his lone start against Campbell, Kitchen was 4-0 with two saves, a 1.38 ERA and .135 opponent batting average. He had also allowed just six runs in his previous 18 outings (39 innings) before that point.

Kitchen has made two appearances since the end of the regular season, seeing action against Radford in the first round of the Big South Championship and NC State in Coastal's third game of the Raleigh Regional.

For the season Kitchen is 4-0 with a 3.19 ERA, and has struck out 36 batters in 42.1 innings pitched while allowing 28 hits and 16 runs.
