Women's Tennis Competes at CofC Invite

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team opened the 2016 fall season this weekend at the College of Charleston Invitational, amassing an 8-9 record in singles and 6-5 record in doubles.
Romane Delay
A1 Singles: 0-3 (8th place)
Competing in the A1 Singles flight, Delay suffered three losses to CofC, UNC Wilmington and Samford.
Sara Bondar
A2 Singles: 2-1 (2nd place)
Bondar advanced to the championship match with consecutive straight-sets wins against UNCW and CofC, but finished in the second place after falling in three sets to Samford.
Natalie Wall
A2 Singles: 1-2 (6th place)
Wall fell in her opening match against Samford, but won in straight-sets over Charlotte to advance to the fifth-place match where her UNCW opponent won by retirement.
Rylie Cox
A3 Singles: 2-1 (3rd place)
Making her first appearance for the Chants, the freshman took third place in her flight with wins against UNCW and Stetson.
Alexa Tiefel
B1 Singles: 1-2 (4th place)
Tiefel won her opening match in straight sets against Charlotte before falling to UNCW in the second round to drop into the third-place match. She then fell in straight sets to Stetson to finish fourth.
Maria Khomchenko
B1 Singles: 1-1 (DNF 5th place match)
Khomchenko split a pair of matches on the first day, falling in the opening round to Stetson before winning in three sets against Samford to advance to the fifth-place match. The match was not finished due to wather.
Brooke Campbell B2 Singles: 1-1 (DNF 3rd place match)
Campbell split a pair of matches on the first day, winning in the first round against Charlotte before falling in the second to UNCW. Her third-place match with UNCW did not finish due to weather.
Anca Rusu
B3 Singles: 2-1 (2nd place)
Rusu was the second Chant to advance to a championship match in singles. She defeated UNCW and CofC in her first two matches, but fell in straight sets to Stetson in the final.
Wall/Delay
A1 Doubles: 2-1 (3rd place)
Natalie Wall and Delay opened with a 6-4 win over Stetson before falling 6-1 to Charlotte. The pair then took a 6-3 win in the third-place match against UNCW.
Bondar/Cox
A1 Doubles: 2-1 (5th place)
Bondar and Cox fell 6-4 in their opening match, but responded with 7-6 (3) and 6-3 wins against a pair of Charlotte duos to take fifth place in the flight.
Tiefel/Khomchenko
A2 Doubles: 2-1 (2nd place)
The pair opened with a 6-1 win against Samford and followed with a 6-4 win over UNCW to advance to the championship match. There, they suffered a 6-2 loss to CofC to finish second.
Rusu/Campbell
B1 Doubles: 0-2 (4th place)
Rusu and Campbell had a first round bye in the B1 doubles flight, and fell in a close 7-5 match in the second round to UNCW. In the third-place match the two were bested 7-5 once again, this time to a pair from Charlotte.
