SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team played its third and final match of the 2016 Shamrock Invitational Saturday afternoon, turning in a 3-0 sweep of Howard, 25-19, 25-22, 25-14.

With the victory Coastal moves to 2-1 in the tournament, and improves to 5-1 overall for the season. Howard, meanwhile, falls to 4-3 overall and places fourth in the tournament.

Next up for the Chants is the Panther Invitational hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. Coastal faces the host Panthers at 7 p.m. on Sept. 9 before squaring off against Michigan and American on Sept. 10.

Coastal 3 - Howard 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-14)

The Chants led from start to finish in the first and third sets, and never trailed by more than two points in the second on their way to a fifth straight-sets win in six matches this season.

Coastal recorded team advantages in kills, hitting percentage, digs and total blocks. Annayka Legros capped an outstanding tournament with 14 kills, a .684 hitting percentage and a block. Leah Hardeman put down nine kills while hitting .300, and Dora Lulic notched eight kills at a .538 clip. Lulic also led the Chants with five block assists.

Khalia Donaldson and Courtney Dalton led the Bison in kills with 11 and 10, respectively, while Olubunmi Okunade led her team with four total blocks (one solo, three assists).

Coastal hit .370 as a team in the opening set and received seven kills from Legros en route to a 25-19 set win. The Chants claimed the first seven points of the set on the serve of Sara Boothe and never looked back, though Howard did manage to close the gap to three points, 16-13, midway through the set.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair, featuring four lead changes and 10 ties. The score was evened for the final time at 19 apiece after Boothe set up a kill for Legros. Carla Cahill then served the Chants to the next four points, giving Coastal a 23-19 lead, and two errors by the Bison secured the set for Coastal.

The final set was all Coastal as the Chants hit .357 while limiting Howard to -.037. Five Chants recorded multiple kills in the set, led by the three each from Hardeman and Natasa Savovic. Lulic also recorded two of her five blocks in the set. Howard was forced into using its first timeout after the Chants took an early 11-4 lead, and did not manage to bring the deficit within six points for the remainder of the set.

Purdue 3 - Coastal 0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-11)

Annayka Legros continued her stretch of impressive play for the Chants, putting down nine kills on 16 attempts with just two errors for a team-leading .438 hitting percentage. Leah Hardeman added 11 kills at a .233 pace.

Purdue took the early advantage in the match, jumping out to an 8-3 lead and forcing Coastal to use its first timeout. A team hitting percentage of .433 helped keep the Boilermakers comfortably in front, and the Chants called their second timeout while trailing by seven, 18-11. Purdue managed to stay ahead by at least five points for the remainder of the set.

Coastal got off to a hot start in the second set, hitting over .500 as a team and taking an early 12-6 lead. Purdue stormed back, however, using a 9-3 run to even the game at 15 points apiece. The Chants responded by taking the next four points and appeared to have control of the set with a 19-15 lead, but the Boilermakers captured eight of the following 11 points to even it once again at 23 all. Consecutive attack errors from the Chants gave Purdue the final two points and a 25-23 set win.

The Boilermakers tallied five team blocks in the final set while limiting the Chants to a negative hitting percentage. Coastal took the first two points of the set, but quickly saw that lead slip away as Cuttino and Stahl combined to put down 10 kills and lead Purdue to a decisive 25-11 set win.
