Chants Compete at Hokie Invitational: Day 1

BLACKSBURG, VA. - The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track and field team opened up the Hokie Invitational Friday evening at the Rector Field House competing in seven events and took home one top-three finish.

Junior pole vaulter Elizabeth Allard started the day off strong for the Chanticleers with a third place finish in the women's unseeded pole vault. Allard had her best jump of the day at 3.45m (11-3 ¾) -- improving on her mark from last weekend.

Samantha Layko finished top 10 in the women's weight throw with her best mark at 15.43m - improving on her throw from last weekend.

Alexis Carpenter was the first Chanticleer to cross the finish line in the women's 1 mile at 5:48.41 while teammate Taylor Creagh followed just behind Carpenter crossing the line with a time of 6:04.71.

Erica Evans led the group of three Chants in the women's 60m hurdle dash to finish with a time of 9.14. Olivia Coopwood (9.33) and Anacia Hines (9.68) rounded out the race for CCU.

Four Chanticleers ran in the 60 meter dash with Carina Frey pacing the group for the second week in a row but was just shy of qualifying for the final round. Frey crossed the line with a time of 7.73. Kelsey Briggs finished with a time of 7.97 -- improving on last weekend's race. Karissa Lunn (7.99) and Hines (8.04) also competed for Coastal.

In the women's 1000 meter dash, freshman Alyssa LeClaire finished at 2:57.40 while teammate Kayla Tracy finished with a 3:11.95 time.

Golden Kumi-Darfor represented the Chants in the women's 600 meter run finishing with a time of 1:39.76 -- third in her heat.

To close out the day for the Chanticleers in the 300 meter run, Tiffany Harris crossed the line at 40.09, while Olivia Coopwood (42.02) and Jonnay Anthony (42.04) followed to close out the race.

The Chanticleers open up day 2 of the Hokie Invitational starting with women's pole vault (seeded) at 11 am.
