Women's Tennis Sweeps USC Upstate

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team earned its first win of the season Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep of USC Upstate at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
After taking the doubles point, Coastal (1-1) won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Marie Babayan and Natalie Wall opened doubles with a clean sweep on the second court, and Sara Bondar and Rylie Cox followed with a 6-2 win at No. 1 to clinch the point. Coastal's third pairing of Alex Tiefel and Maria Khomchenko finished the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory.
Cox took the opening singles point on the first court in straight sets. Khomchenko, playing at No.5, put the Chants ahead 3-0 with a straight-sets win, and Babayan secured the win for the Chants after taking the third court.
Bondar (No. 4) and Tiefel (No. 6) added a pair of straight-sets wins, and Wall closed the match with a come-from-behind win in three sets on the second court.
"It was a solid effort from the team today," said Chanticleer head coach Catherine Hewitt. "I was proud of our execution again in doubles, and we're looking forward to getting back on the court next weekend."
Coastal's home stand continues next weekend with a pair of matches against Campbell (Feb. 4) and UNC Wilmington (Feb. 5) at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
