CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team lost a tightly contested match Friday afternoon, falling 4-3 to UNC Wilmington at the Stevens Tennis Complex.

UNCW (3-2) won the doubles point and worked its way towards a 3-1 lead. Coastal (3-2) attempted to rally, cutting its deficit to one point, but a three-set loss on the fourth court gave the Seahawks the deciding point in the narrow victory.

"This was a great college tennis match," said Coastal head coach Chris Powers. "UNCW is an excellent team, and we took them the distance today. I'm really proud of how this team, especially the freshmen, fought for each other today."

UNCW's second and third doubles pairings won identical 6-3 matches to clinch the doubles point. The match on the first court went unfinished with the UNCW duo narrowly leading, 6-5.

Luiz Faria evened the match as play turned to singles, topping Agustin Savarino in straight sets on the second court.

UNCW responded with straight-sets wins on the third and sixth courts, giving the Seahawks a 3-1 advantage.

Vuk Velickovic gave Coastal its second point on the top court, rallying from a 1-6 loss in the opening set to win in three over Josh Hublitz.

Francesco Migliano, playing at No. 4, likewise fell in the opening set, 1-6. He took the second set 7-5, but Ignasi de Rueda capped the match in the third set, 6-3, to give UNCW the win.

Play concluded on the fifth court, where Jose Ortega bested Raphael Calzi in three sets.

Coastal has a week off before its next pair of matches, both set to take place at the Stevens Tennis Complex. The Chants host Campbell at 2 p.m. on Feb. 17 before making their Sun Belt debut against Appalachian State on Feb. 19 at 11 a.m.
