Women's Tennis Wins 5-2 at East Carolina

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team won the first of back-to-back road matches Friday afternoon at East Carolina, downing the Pirates by a 5-2 margin.
East Carolina took a match lead after capturing the doubles point, but Coastal rallied to win on five of the six singles courts to take the match. All but one singles point was taken to the third set.
"Our team showed a ton of heart, stamina and desire today," said Coastal head coach Catherine Hewitt. "We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. ECU is a strong team and to get a win on the road against them means we are headed in the right direction."
ECU won 6-1 on the second doubles court and 6-3 on the first court to take a 1-0 match lead. The No. 3 match went unfinished tied at 4-4.
Maria Khomchenko evened the match with the only straight-sets win of the day at No. 6.
Coastal took its first lead when Marie Babayan rallied from a first-set loss to win in three at No. 4. Romane Delay delivered Coastal's third point in a three-set win at No. 3, splitting the first two sets before winning 7-5 in the third.
Celia Ruiz then gave ECU its lone singles point with a three-set win on the first court over Rylie Cox.
Sara Bondar sealed the match for the Chants, rallying from a first-set loss to overtake Michelle Castro on the fifth court.
Natalie Wall closed the match and Coastal its final point at No. 2, downing Lisa Hofbauer in the third set.
Coastal remains on the road for its next match, a 1 p.m. meeting with South Carolina on Feb. 28.
