Coastal Carolina Takes Down Central Michigan, 15-9

Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Coastal Carolina defeated Central Michigan 15-9 in Mount Pleasant, Friday afternoon. The win improves the Chanticleers record to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the ASUN, and the Chippewas fall to 4-6 and 1-2 ASUN.

Central Michigan got the scoring started in the first half getting the first goal with 28:53 left on a Shannon Doyle (2 goals) free position goal for the 1-0 lead. The Chippewas needed just 2:19 to make it 2-0 when Jocelyne Lemay (4 goals) found the back of the net for her first of the day.

The Chants answered back cutting the lead in half when Keri White (2 goals) put her shot between the pipes on a feed from Maggie Carr (1 goal, 4 assists) with 25:04 on the clock. Sophie Crowther (4 goals) scored 56 seconds to tie the match at 2-2. With 18:22 on the clock, White scored again to give the Chanticleers their first lead of the game at 3-2.

Central Michigan scored the next two goals (15:14 and 14:26) to retake the lead at 4-3.

Courtney Genovese (5 goals, assist), the leading scorer in the match, scored unassisted with 10:14 to tie the score at 4-4. Haley Alexander (1 goal, 1 assist) followed at 7:16 on the assist by Genovese to retake the lead for CCU.

The Chippewas and the Chants traded goals with CMU knotting them match at 6-6 with 1:57 left in the half.

Coastal Carolina closed the half with a two-goal run, Hannah Krin pushed the Chanticleers in front 7-6 with 38 seconds left and Haley Kyger scored on a free position with three seconds to close the scoring for the half.

The Chants opened the second half when Genovese scored with 27:57 left to make it 9-6. Lemay pulled Central Michigan back within two at the 23:12 mark.

Coastal started a six-goal run before being answered by CMU. Genovese found the back of the net with the feed from Carr. Carr then followed unassisted to push the lead to 11-7. Crowther (19:27) scored unassisted and Genovese finished her day with a goal making it 12-7 at 14:23 with a feed from Madeline Bromley. Crowther closed the scoring for the Chants with a free position goal (13:37) and an unassisted goal (6:11) for the 15-7 lead.

The Chippewas then found the back of the net twice in the last 4:38 to close out the scoring for the final tally of 15-9.

Coastal Carolina continues its road trip in Michigan as it travels to Pontiac, Mich., to take on Detroit Mercy, Sunday, April 2 for a 12:00 p.m. draw.
