AIKEN - Coastal Carolina turned in rounds of 285 and 284 for a 36-hole total of 569 Monday to stand in seventh place in the 18-team Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational, played at the par 70, 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club.
Third-ranked Virginia leads with a two-round total of 543, followed by #16 Clemson (546), Augusta and #39 South Carolina (566).
Thadd Obecny II is tied for 16th with a career-best, 36-hole total of 141. He opened with a 73 before tying his career-best with a 68 in the afternoon session.
Brothers Luis Ruiz and Alfredo Ruiz are tied for 22nd after carding a 3-over par 143. Luis shot a 4-over 74 in the opening round before rallying with a career-best, 1-under 69 in round two. Alfredo posted a 2-over 72 in the morning and a 1-over 71 in the afternoon.
Daniel Overas had five birdies in round one en route to his career-best 68. He followed that with a 76 and is tied for 28th with a 36-hole score of 4-over 144.
Ryan Carpenter is tied for 54th with a total of 148. He opened with a 72 before shooting a 76 in round two.
The Palmetto Invitational will conclude with 18 final holes Tuesday.
