Fresno, Calif. - Coastal Carolina (3-0) closed its West Coast trip Wednesday night with a 13-8 victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs (4-2).
Harley Barrett earned the win in her first career start for the Chants. Sophie Crowther was the leading score for CCU with five points on three goals and two assists.
The Chanticleers imposed their will, by keeping offensive pressure on the Bulldogs, after Fresno State took a 1-0 lead 30 seconds into the match. Sophie Crowther (5 points, with 3 goals) and Maggie Carr (4 points with 3 assists) helped the offense.
Carr's first assist of the contest came on Courtney Genovese's goal that tied the game at the 27:27 mark. 56 seconds later, Crowther scored her first of the day.
The Bulldogs tied it up at two on a Sarah Bloise goal.
The Chants took control with a two-goal lead on back-to-back goals from Madeline Bromley (20:31) and Keri White (19:09).
Haley Kyger (two points) pushed the lead back to two, letting Genovese and Carr team up again to give CCU the largest first half lead at 6-3. Coastal added one more to take a 7-5 lead into the half.
The Chanticleers opened the second with free position goals from Carr at 27:36 and Crowther's third of the night, the eventual game-winner at 23:45.
Haley Wells and Hannah Krin both scored their first career goals to give the Chants a seven goal lead. CCU's Haley Alexander and White closed out the scoring in the second half for Coastal Carolina.
The Chanticleers return to action on Sunday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m. to take on Big East member, Vanderbilt at Brooks Stadium.
