WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss at #1 Wake Forest in its season opener Tuesday afternoon.

The nation's top-ranked Demon Deacons swept the Chants on the doubles court to take the opening point, and proceeded to win five of the six singles points, with Coastal's lone point provided by Lawrence Perrin.

Wake's second doubles pairing of Petros Chrysochos/Bar Botzer defeated Perrin and Paul Boulay, 6-1, to open the match. Luiz Faria and Zak Talic then fell to Borna Gojo/Alan Gadjiev at No. 1 allowing Wake Forest to clinch the opening point. The doubles sweep was finished by Julian Zlobinsky/Ian Dempster over Gonzalez Achondo and Juan Castellanos on the third court.

Chrysochos, the fourth-ranked singles player in the nation, defeated Faria in straight sets at No. 1 to give Wake Forest a 2-0 lead. Yuval Solomon, holding a #83 national singles ranking, made it 3-0 match after besting Castellanos on the sixth court. Gadjiev clinched the match for Wake with a straight-sets win over Boulay at No. 4.

#88 Botzer (No. 2) and Rrezart Cungu (No. 3) delivered the other two points for Wake.

Perrin won the match's final point on the fifth court, rallying from a first-set loss to defeat Eduardo Nava in three sets.

"It was a good all-around effort from us today," said head coach Chris Powers. "We showed good composure throughout the match and got better on a lot of the courts in the second sets. We have a long way to go but I like the way we competed today against the best team in college tennis."

Next up for the Chants is their home opener against Eastern Washington on Sunday at 1 p.m.
