CCU Soccer Sweeps Sun Belt Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Two wins over the past week propelled Coastal Carolina to a sweep in the weekly Sun Belt Conference player of the week honors.
Yazeed Matthews has been named the Sun Belt's Offensive Player of the Week. The senior scored all of CCU's goals in wins at Clemson and at Howard over the past week.
His goal at Clemson was the lone score of the match and his second goal against Howard was the final score. He had game-winning goals in each match and now leads the conference with three game-winning goals. Matthews has played in 10 matches, but is still second in the Sun Belt in points (17), goals (7), shots per game (3.60), points per game (1.70), goals per game (0.70) and is tied for second in assists (3).
Matthews added another weekly honor as he was named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week.
Kervin Fadel has been named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. The senior defender has been a mainstay along the back line of defense all season for the Chants and is a major part of holding Clemson and Howard to single goals.
The preseason defensive player of the year has started all 11 games this season and has helped the Chants defense only allow 14 goals on the season.
The Chants will play their final non-conference game of the season and third consecutive road game when they travel to Wilmington, N.C. to take on 11th-ranked UNC Wilmington. The match against the Seahawks will be played Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
