Coastal Set for Homecoming Contest Versus App State This Saturday

Coastal Carolina football returns home to host the Appalachian State Mountaineers in Sun Belt action as part of Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 5 p.m. ET at Brooks Stadium.

Series Versus App State
• The Chanticleers and Mountaineers are meeting for the fifth time overall, but just the first time in Conway, S.C. on Saturday.
 
• Coastal Carolina is 0-4 all-time versus Appalachian State with all four meetings coming in Boone, N.C.
 
• Twice the Mountaineers have been ranked nationally (both in the FCS) when playing the Chanticleers - No. 1 in FCS in 2006 and No. 17 in FCS in 2012.
 
• Last time these two teams' met was last season, the first time with both teams as members of NCAA FBS and the Sun Belt. Appalachian State defeated Coastal Carolina 37-29 in Boone, N.C.

Homecoming Success
• The Chanticleers are 10-5 all-time in games on Homecoming Weekend inside Brooks Stadium.
 
• Coastal dropped its Homecoming game last year 27-7 versus Texas State on Oct. 28, its first loss on Homecoming Weekend since 2011.
 
• CCU won four-straight Homecoming contests from 2004-07 and posted five-consecutive wins on Homecoming Weekend from 2012-16.
 
• Under head coach Joe Moglia, the Chanticleers are a perfect 5-0 in Homecoming games (2012-16).
 
A Season of Firsts
• The 2018 season has seen a lot of firsts for the Chants, mainly in the wins column.
 
• Four of the Chanticleers' wins this season are the first wins over their opponents in program history.

Moving The Chains
• The Chants have recorded 186 first downs this season offensively, 10 more than their opponents (176) on the year.
 
• CCU is first in the Sun Belt with 186 first down conversions on the season and 28th nationally among all FBS football programs.
 
Next Man Up
• The "Next Man Up" mentality has been none more evident than at the quarterback position this year for Coastal Carolina.
 
• Getting his first career start for the injured Kilton Anderson at Troy (Sept. 29), freshman Bryce Carpenter had a career-day, as he was 18-for-22 for 172 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
 
• In similar fashion, making his first career start due to the injured Carpenter and ailing Anderson, freshman Fred Payton had a career-game versus Georgia State (Oct. 27) going 12-for-17 with 222 yards and a touchdown through the air and 62 yards on the ground.
 
You Shall Not Pass
• The CCU defense has held strong on fourth downs this season, as the Chants have forced their opponents to turn the ball over on downs seven out of 11 fourth down attempts (4-of-11, 36.4 percent).
 
• The CCU defense ranks second in the Sun Belt and 23rd nationally in fourth down conversion percentage defense (36.4 percent) on the year.
 
One Win Away
• With their five wins heading into play this weekend versus Appalachian State, CCU is just one game away from becoming bowl eligible in its first year of eligibility.
 
• The Chants are in their first full year in the FBS after two years of transition from NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) to the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
