Lexington, Va. - The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track and field team traveled to Lexington for the second time this season to compete in the Winter Relays at Virginia Military Institute Friday.

In the track events, Annie Bothma, competing for the first time this season, placed first in the 5000 meter run setting a facility (VMI-Corps Physical Training Facility) record with her time of 17:21.39, shaving just under four seconds off the previous record.

Anacia Hines, Carina Frey, and Karissa Lunn qualified for the semi-finals in the 60m with times of 7.70, 7.71 and 7.72 respectively. All three made it to the finals with Hines and Frey improving their times with 7.62 and 7.70, followed by Lunn with a 7.75. The finals will be held on Saturday.

In the 4x800 relay the team of Daisy Hooper, Ashlyn Ritter, Lisha van Onselen and Mya Ray placed fifth with their time of 10:33.21.

Over in the field events, Joya Blackwell placed ninth in the high jump with her height of 1.56m (5' 1.25").

Samantha Layko in the weight throw finished ninth with her toss of 15.48m (50' 9.34"), followed by Alexis Ross in 10th with her distance of 14.76m (48' 5.25").

In the triple jump, Courtney Lawson finished 10th with her leap of 10.98m (36' 0.25").

The Chanticleers will return to action on day two of the Winter Relays on Saturday, Feb. 10.
