Coastal 14 - Winthrop 16 
CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team opened the home portion of its season falling to former Big South opponent Winthrop 16-14. The loss dropped the Chants record to 1-5 while the Eagles improved to 4-3 on the season.
Haley Alexander and Madeline Bromley paced the way for Coastal, Alexander had filled the back of the net four times and Bromley once but also had six assists.
Alexander started the match off finding the back of the net with Julia Imbo getting the assist at the 25:54 mark in the first half.
Winthrop knotted the match up when Katie Clark scored with 23:15, and then pulled ahead by two when Katherine Judge got a tally on a free position at 22:02 and Lauren Morris fed Allie Yeager with 21:24 left in the first half.
Hannah Krin pulled the Chants back to even at three to three, with her first two goals of the season, getting a free position goal with 20:22 on the clock and 18:03 off the dish from Bromley.
Alexander put CCU ahead four to three teaming up with Bromley, before Coastal took its largest lead at 5-to-3 when Sophie Crowther scored on a free position with 15:38 until halftime.
The Eagles scored five unanswered with Nicole Beatson scoring all to push Winthrop ahead eight to five at the half.
Alexander scored the third of her four goals hooking up with Bromley at 23:46 remaining to pull within 8-to-6, and Courtney Genovese made it seven to eight with Haley Kyger getting the dish by striking after 32 seconds expired off the clock.
Yeager, the last of her hat-trick, and Bianca Tedesco pushed the lead to 11-7 getting goals with 22:54, 21:51 and 21:14 left on the clock.
Julia Imbo and Bromley teamed up to make it 11-8 before the Eagles pushed it to 13-8 with 17:59 remaining to play.
Coastal pulled to 13-12 on goals by Crowther (16:59), Bromley (13:09), Sarah McEvoy (10:20), and Alexander (9:44).
The final tallies came when CCU (Genovese and Lyla Robinson) and Winthrop traded the final five goals for the final 16-14.
Coastal Carolina will return to action on Sunday, March 13, at 1:00 p.m. when they take on the Elon Phoenix in Brooks Stadium.
