ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team's comeback attempt fell one point short Friday afternoon as the Chanticleers suffered a close, 4-3 loss at Winthrop.

The doubles point proved to be the difference-maker, as the teams evenly split the six singles points. Winthrop took the deciding point at No. 5 singles to drop Coastal to 6-10 this season.

The Eagles won the doubles point on the third and first courts by 6-1 and 6-2 scores, respectively.

Coastal overtook the lead when Francesco Cori-Gamero (No. 6) and Zak Talic (No. 2) captured the first two singles points in straight sets.

Winthrop's Tremayne Mitchell evened the match once again with a No. 3 win, and Diego Quiroz gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead with a victory on the first court.

Gonzalez Achondo tied the match for a third time with a three-set win at No. 4, setting up the deciding point on the fifth court.

Lawrence Perrin took the first set 6-2, but was edged 6-7, 6-7 in the second and third sets as Gabriel Dias handed Winthrop the win.

Coastal has a lengthy break before its next match, a 3 p.m. contest at USC Upstate on April 2.
