CONWAY - In the finale of the three-game series, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers improved to 16-16 overall and 2-7 in the Sun Belt Conference as they picked up an 8-6 over the UT-Arlington Mavericks (14-16, 4-6 SBC) on Sunday at CCU Softball Stadium. The Chanticleers used a six-run third inning from home runs by senior Timi Tooley and freshman Samantha Sack.

UTA took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning off of Chant misplays, but Coastal answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the second as freshman Sack drove a 3-2 pitch over the left field fence for her fourth homer of the season.

In the third, Whitney Walton gave the lead back to the Mavs with her second home run of the year.

The Chanticleers used the six-run third inning to break away from UTA as freshman Courtney Dean singled in Alvino from second base. Two batters later, with the bases full, Tooley emptied the bases with a grand slam and her second home run of the season. With the momentum on the side of the home team, Sack delivered her second home run of the game to give the Chants the 7-2 lead after three.

Coastal answered with their final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with an Alvino homer to left.

In the top of the six and UTA down by the score of the 8-3 score, the Mavericks picked up three runs off reliever Ashley Guillette. Sandra Mendoza and Krista Rude led off the inning with consecutive singles and then the Mavs added two other singles by Reagan Wright and Brittany Wyllie to cut the lead to 8-6.

Chant's starter Kaitlin Beasley-Polko picked up her eighth win as she pitched her way through the fourth inning allowing three runs on five hits before giving off to the junior Guillette who came in to pitch the final three innings for her second save of the season.

In the series against the UT-Arlington, Coastal Carolina hit ten home runs and now has a total of 46 on the season which is best in the SBC and top ten in the nation.
