Coastal 20 - Howard 2 
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team dominated their 2018 ASUN season opener in the nation's capital, against Howard winning 20-2. The Chanticleers improved to 4-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Bison dropped to 1-5 and 0-1 in the conference.
For the second consecutive match, CCU leaped out to an early lead and held their opponents scoreless in the first half. The Chants started the scoring with Haley Alexander (3 goals, 3 assists) filling the net on the feed from Julia Imbo for the one to nil lead with 27:44 to play in the first half.
Sophie Crowther made it a two-goal lead getting her first of two goals on the day with a free position shot with 25:57 on the clock. Jordan Harrell (3 goals) followed up with back to back unassisted goals and the 4-to-0 lead at the 22:20 mark.
Madeline Bromley assisted on the following two goals by feeding Imbo and Megan Busch on consecutive goals to push the CCU lead to six to nil with 18:50 remaining. Crowther found the back of the net with the dish from Haley Kyger with 17:23 to play in the first half, for the seven-goal lead.
Alexander (16:14) and Abbey Buchanan followed with back to back goals to increase the Chanticleer lead to nine to nil at the 15:30 mark. Harrell got her hat trick goal and Alexander picked up her first assist to start the running clock by the virtue of having a 10 goal lead with 14 minutes to play in the half.
Lyla Robinson then sandwiched an Alexander goal with two of her own to push the lead to 13-nil, and 7:19 to play until halftime. Bailey O'Brien and Sarah McEvoy closed out the scoring for the halftime margin of 15-0 for the Chants.
The second half started with McEvoy getting her second goal of the day with 27:19 left in the game and a 16-0 CCU lead.
Howard stopped the 16 goal run by getting on the scoreboard with 23:38 remaining to trail 16-1 when Natia Warren scored, the first of two goals on the day, on a free position.
Samantha Courtemanche made it a 16 goal lead again filling the back of the net off the feed from Bromley with 15:10 remaining.
Warren followed with her second goal with just under 10 minutes for the final tally for the Bison to trail 17-2.
Ali Davis (6:03), Hannah Krin (2:37), and Buchanan (0:48) closed out the scoring for the final margin of 20-2.
Coastal Carolina returns back to action on Thursday, April 5, for the ASUN home opener against the visiting Stetson Hatters. The opening draw is scheduled for noon.
