SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team rallied to even the match after falling behind 3-0, but could not complete its comeback as the Chants fell at USC Upstate, 4-3, Monday afternoon.

The loss drops Coastal to 6-11 overall as it closes out its nonconference road schedule. The Chants begin a three-match home stand against UNCG on April 7 before closing out the regular season at Sun Belt opponent Appalachian State on April 15.

USC Upstate grabbed the opening doubles point and the first two singles points before Coastal managed to get on the board. After tying the match at 3-3, the deciding point was won by Upstate's Ignacio Garrido in three sets on the fifth court.

Coastal's second doubles pairing of Francesco Cori-Gamero and Zak Talic opened the afternoon with a 6-1 win. Upstate evened the doubles point with a 6-4 win on the third court, and finished the point by winning the first court in extras, 7-6.

Lukea Eble and Fernando Bernardes won the first singles point on courts four and three, respectively.

Coastal's rally began at No. 2, where Luiz Faria won a three-set match over Francisco Neto. Juan Castellanos followed with a three-set win at No. 6 to cut Upstate's lead to a single point, and Talic evened the match on the first court.

On the match-deciding fifth court, Garrido and Cori-Gamero split the first two sets. Garrido was able to defend his home court in the final set, however, winning a 7-6 (5-0) tiebreaker over Cori-Gamero.
