CONWAY - The final home match for the four women's lacrosse seniors did not turn into a happy ending as the Central Michigan Chippewas downed Coastal Carolina 11-10 in a back and forth defensive battle. Prior to the start of the match, the Chants honored Taylor Pascale, Gabby Vujanic, Sophie Crowther and Courtney Genovese.

The Chanticleers record fell to 8-8 overall and remained 3-1 in the ASUN while CMU improved to 11-5 and stayed at 4-0 in the Southern Conference on the season.

The Chippewas got the scoring started with 54 seconds elapsing from the game clock when Natalie Karlen was able to beat the CCU goalie for the early one nil lead.

Jordan Harrell knotted the match up at one a piece on the feed from Haley Alexander with 26:27 remaining in the first half. Genovese, playing in her final home game, gave Coastal the two to one lead with 24:56 still on the clock with the assist from Julia Imbo.

Karlen then dished to Emma Hamilton to knot the match up at two to two with a minute expiring from the clock.

Alexander scored her first goal of the day to put the Chants back in front at 3-to-2 with Haley Kyger getting the assist and 18:48 to play in the first half.

Shannon Doyle made it three to three with 17:29 remaining until halftime.

Alexander teamed up with Madeline Bromley for her second goal putting CCU back on top 4-to-3 briefly with 15:11 to play in the first half.

Hamilton made it four all with 14:21 until the half.

Kyger converted her first goal of the day and closed the first half scoring for the Chants at 9:28 with Imbo picking up her second assist and giving Coastal a 5-to-4 lead.

Tyra Prince tallied the final goal of the first half with 6:53 remaining on a free position goal and a five to five score at the half.

Central Michigan opened the second half getting goals from Anna Schoonover (28:36) and Jocelyne Lemay (27:19) to open a seven to five lead.

Crowther started a four-goal run for the Chanticleers with a free position goal with 26:18 to play in the match. Imbo tallied her lone goal of the day with Bromley picking up her second assist with 25:30 remaining on the clock. Bromley followed with 18:57 on the clock for the unassisted goal putting Coastal in the lead. Alexander got the hat trick goal and two-goal lead at 9-to-7 with 15:43 to play on a free position goal.

Hamilton (14:03) and Lemay (7:56) answered back with each getting a goal to even the score at nine apiece.

Kyger closed out the scoring for the Chanticleers with Alexander getting her second assist of the day with 7:07 remaining and giving CCU their last lead at 10-9.

The Chippewas closed out the scoring with Doyle picking up her second goal on the day with 6:21 to knot the match at 10-10. Hamilton followed with 4:33 remaining on a free position to give CMU the final margin of 11-10.

Coastal outshot Central Michigan 33-24 and won the draw control battle 16-7 but was unable to fill the back of the net from the CMU solid defense.

Coastal Carolina will close out the regular season as they travel to Norfolk, Va., Saturday, April 28, with the opening draw scheduled for noon.
