Conway, S.C. – It was an early season battle between two top-20 ranked teams as UCLA visited Coastal Carolina University and left Conway with a 4-0 victory in the season-opener for both teams.
UCLA entered the match ranked 17
th in the preseason poll and scored a goal in the 24
th minute in the first half to lead 1-0 at halftime. Matt Hundley scored the first of his two goals on the evening after taking a pass from Asiedu Anderson.
The Bruins were able to break through for three second half goals for the final 4-0 tally over the 18
th-ranked Chanticleers. After 32 minutes of action, the Bruins' Anderson started the scoring in the second half in the 71st minute on a free kick from just outside the box on a bender that CCU goalie
Chris Datallo looked to have got a hand on, but could not stop the ball from reaching the net.
UCLA tacked on two more goals in the 78th and 89th minute for the final 4-0 tally.
CCU did get off eight shots against UCLA, but was unable to find the back of the net. CCU had shots from eight different players with
Jeranimo Power and Jorge Calis having shots on goal.
The Chanticleers will not get much time off as Georgetown comes into Conway to face CCU in a Sunday night match which begins at 7 p.m.
