HONOLULU, HI. - On Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center, the Coastal Carolina volleyball dropped its final match of two to the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine. The Chanticleers fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-22), and now dropped to 1-4 on the season.
Hawaii picked up where they left off on Thursday night as they got off to a hot start as they jumped out to a 6-1 in the opening set , but the Chants were able to rally over the next 12 points to cut the Wahine lead down to three, 11-8. Freshman
Ani Bozdeva led the Chanticleers with two of her four kills in that span. Coastal was not able to cut into the lead as Hawaii went onto win the first set, 25-14.
Rainbow hit close to perfect as they ended the set with one attack error and as a team they hit .519. It was a trio of Wahine players; McKenna Granato, Skyler Williams, and Norene Iosia, that each had three kills apiece in the opening stanza.
Coastal's offense continued to struggle in set two as the Wahine jumped out to a 10-3 lead. Just like set one, Coastal was able to rally back, resulting from five Hawaii errors and were able to cut into the lead over the next 15 points and make it 16-12. Granato and Casey Castillo led the Rainbow with four kills each in set two.
Set three was different from the prior five sets of the two match series. Neither team could get a firm grip on the set as there were three lead changes and 11 ties.
Anett Nemeth had her best set of the two weekend's matches as she was able to find holes through the Hawaii block. Nemeth tallied five kills in 11 swings for a .300 hitting percentage in set three.
With set three tied at 19, Hawaii rattled off four consecutive points as Bozdeva contributed to the cause with two consecutive attack errors.
