BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – An early goal in the 13
th minute held up for Coastal Carolina as the Chants defeated host Alabama-Birmingham in the final match of the UAB Soccer for a Cure Classic.
Tsiki Ntsabeleng got free in the box and blasted an unassisted goal past the UAB goalkeeper which turned out to be the only goal of the match and another match-winner this season for the first-year Chant.
CCU had to hold off a massive offensive onslaught by the Blazers in the second half as UAB out shot Coastal 8-2 in the second 45 minutes, and that includes having four of those shots on goal. After two of CCU's shots were on goal in the first half, neither of its two second half shots were on goal.
With Ntsabeleng's goal, the junior had a hand in all three goals of the weekend in Birmingham. He had assists on both goals in CCU's win over Memphis in Friday's action and his goal today, was his second of the season.
Chris Datallo was once again in goal for CCU, picking up his second consecutive shutout. He had four saves for the game.
The win for CCU is the team's third consecutive after a season-opening loss to nationally-ranked UCLA. The win pushes CCU's record to 3-1 on the season while UAB is now 1-3.
The Chants will be off for a few days before playing host to its next two opponents. CCU will welcome and old foe in Radford to the CCU Soccer Stadium Tuesday, Sept. 11 for a 7 p.m. match. Sunday, Sept. 16 George Mason will visit Conway for a 3 p.m. match.
