Mobile, Ala. – Sunny Sigurvinsdottir scored the game-winner in the second overtime to give the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team a 1-0 over defending Sun Belt Conference champions South Alabama, Friday evening in Mobile.
The win improved the Chanticleers record to 3-4-1 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt action, while the Jaguars dropped to 3-6 and 1-1.
South Alabama applied offensive pressure throughout the whole match but was matched evenly by the CCU defense. Goalie
Rylee Atteberry recorded a career-high 11 saves while facing 26 shots in the win.
Offensively, Coastal saved its best for the final overtime with three shots coming in the final two minutes of the match with
Lauren Dabner sending a free kick from the left side and Sigurvinsdottir gathering it up for her second goal of the season.
Coastal Carolina will remain in Alabama to take on Troy on Sunday (Sept. 23), with the opening kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
