CONWAY – On Friday evening, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers women's and men's teams cross country teams took home wins in their home event at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Both squads also had first and second place finishes in both The Hackler Golf Course.
Women
To start the evening,
Laura Croll took the win (20:14.90) in her first career race as the freshman finished over 18 seconds faster than her teammate, junior
Alyssa LeClaire who finished with a time of 20:32.90.
A pair of juniors finished fourth and fifth for CCU as
Lexi Carpenter and
Giovanna Leone finished with times of 21:15.20 and 21:19.10 respectively.
Heather Delaplaine (8
th – 21:37.30),
Sarah Lemon(11
th – 22.27.30), and
Bailey Johnson (16 - 23:24.90) rounded out the top 20 for the Chanticleers.
Ashlyn Ritter (22
nd - 24.50.80),
Grace Lennon (28th -27.22.00), and
Kerry O'Connor (29
th - 27:44.90) rounded out race for the Coastal women.
Men
The CCU men dominated the top 10 places in the second race of the night as the Chanticleers finished with seven runners in the top 10.
Twin brothers Nadeel and
Adriaan Wildschutt along with
Hutson Baumann dominated the second 5K as all three were close to two minutes ahead of the third place runner Evan Jones from UNCW. Nadeel finished in first with a time of 14:58.80 as he averaged 4.49 per mile. Brother Adriaan, came in seven seconds behind his brother in his first career cross country race as a Chanticleer. The senior, Baumann was one second behind for third place with at time of 15:06.50 as it broke his previous career best in any 5K of 15:54.50.

The Coastal men took home first place with 17 points and the women were victorious with 20 points.
The XC teams are back in action next Saturday, September 15 as they travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina for the Winthrop Invitational and home of this year's NCAA Regionals.
