Liberty Kickoff Day One Results (PDF)
LYNCHBURG, VA. - On day one of the Liberty Kickoff, the Coastal Carolina women's indoor track and field team took to action in their second meet of the season at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex where three top ten finishes occurred in respective events to go along with a new school record.
The foursome of
Hesmari Coetzee,
Lisha van Onselen,
Sarah Lemon and
Cameron Rice took part of the 4x800 and finished ninth overall with a time of 10:13.54, breaking the Coastal Carolina school record of 2018's mark of 10:33.21 set by
Daisy Hooper,
Ashlyn Ritter,
Lisha van Onselen, and
Mya Ray.
Lexi Carpenter took the track in the 5000 meters for the first time in her career and finished in sixth place. The junior finished with a time 19:48.79.
In the field,
Sammy Jo Layko also picked up a ninth place finish on Friday where the senior tossed 16.00 meters in the weight throw event. The Crotan, North Carolina native picked up her best throw of the day on her very first attempt but was unable to match the distance of first place competitor Patria Vaimaona of Liberty who threw the days best of 19.96 meters.
Pole Vaulter
Katie Bond saw action in her first career event as the freshman placed in the top 20 for the Chanticleers. The native from Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania threw a distance of 2.90 meters.
