CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team lost to USC Upstate 1-0 in what one could call a physical battle.
Â
Neither team could get on the board in the opening 45 minutes, but the Spartans found the back of the net in the 54
th minute when Mario Arrocha took a centering pass from Javier Torres and got the ball just under CCU goalie
Alberto Ciroi. While both teams had several other chances that would be the lone goal of the match.
Â
The Spartans had 14 shots with seven on goal and the Chanticleers finished with 12 shots, four on goal.
Tsiki Ntsabeleng and
DZ Harmon led CCU with three shots each while
Claudio Repetto and
Tyrone Mondi added two.
Â
Both goalies made big saves in the match as Ciroi finished with six saves and USCU goalie Felipe Baeza finishing with four.
Â
It was a hard fought and physical match on both sides with 28 total fouls being called. Among those were nine yellow cards, six were given to USC Upstate and three to CCU.
