Coastal Carolina women’s tennis traveled to Charlotte for the weekend

Charlotte, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team traveled to Charlotte, N.C. to compete in the 49er Invite held on the campus of UNC Charlotte. On the first day of competition, the Chanticleers claimed seven wins in singles play and three victories in doubles action.

Doubles Sweep
In Flight B doubles play, the tandem of Maria Khomchenko and Alicja Zduniak got a 7-6 (1) victory over Isabel Fornies and Viktorija Veselinova from Queens University of Charlotte.

Flight A and Flight C competition ended with identical 6-4 Chanticleer victories. In Flight A, Somer Dalla Bona teamed with Flaminia Scará to defeat Angela Georgieva and Rafaela Santos from Winthrop, while in Flight C Jessie Mount and Valentina Urelli handed Kate Halickman and Katya Khramtsova the loss.

Singles Rally
Coastal picked up straight-set victories in Flights C, D, E, F, and G, played one set in Flight H and needed three sets for the win in Flight A.

In Flight A, Dalla Bona dropped the opening set before rebounding in the next two sets for the 3-6, 7-6(6), 10-6 win over Santos of Winthrop.

In Flights C and F, Iryna Vardanian and Alexa Tiefel had identical 6-3, 6-2 victories. Vardanian defeated the Eagles' Samantha Nanere while Tiefel took down Halickman of the Royals.

CCU's Zduniak needed a tiebreak in the first set to claim the set victory and used the momentum to record a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Veselinova from Queens in Flight D while Urelli defeated Fornies of Queens 6-4, 6-3 in Flight E. The Chanticleers' Mount earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Khramtsova in Flight G with Khomchenko picking up an 8-4 single set victory over the Royals Halickman in Flight H.

Coastal will continue action at the 49er Invite in Charlotte on Saturday with the action starting at 8 a.m. The Chanticleers will face a split lineup from Long Island and Princeton and Sun Belt foe Georgia State.
