Women's Golf to Finish Fall Season at Kiawah Island

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's golf team will stay in the state of South Carolina to conclude the fall portion of their schedule when they play at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, Oct. 13-15.
The event will be hosted by the College of Charleston and will be played at the Turtle Pointe Golf Club at Kiawah Island. It is a par-72, 6,005-yard course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
The young Chants have shown improvement in each of the first three tournaments this fall. They finished 11th after shooting a 913 at the Glass City Invite to open the year. The following event saw them finish ninth and knock 11 shots off their opening event with a 902 at the Lady Paladin Invitational.
Last week, the Chants moved up even more with a sixth-place finish at the Princess Anne Invitational after carding a three-day total of 862.
Head coach Katie Quinney, in her 12th season leading the Chants, has been using a young lineup that includes three sophomores and two freshmen. The two returners from last season's program, Tiffany Arafi and Jenjira Jinangkul, are leading the team in scoring, as both have a 74.44 average after the first three events.
The other three first-year players are being led by Caitlin Evans-Brand, who is coming off a solid showing at the Princess Anne Invitational. She led the event midway through the third round before finishing seventh. She shot a 67-69 in the first two rounds of the event, the two best 18-hole rounds by the team this fall. She has a 74.89 average heading into the final fall event.
Freshmen Sophia Carleson and Heidrun Hylnsdottir have both had solid showings during their first year in the CCU uniform. Carleson enters the Palmetto event with a 76.00 round average and Hylnsdottir has a 76.33.
CCU will join 21 other teams in the event led by host College of Charleston (A and B teams). Others making the trip to Kiawah Island are Boston College, Boston University, Cincinnati, Dayton State College, Fresno State, Jacksonville State, Kansas, UAB, UNC Greensboro, Xavier, North Florida, Radford, Old Dominion, Wichita State, Charleston Southern, East Tennessee State, Elon, Marshall and fellow Sun Belt member Troy.
The first two rounds on Monday and Tuesday are scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m. from holes one and 10. Tuesday's final round is scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
