CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will close out the home portion of their 2019 schedule as they will host Texas State on Friday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. ET.
On the season, the Chants have an overall record of 5-7-2 and 3-3-1 in Sun Belt play while on its home field Coastal holds a 3-2 record over its visiting opponents.
Last time out, the Chanticleers fell 3-2 in double overtime to the Sun Belt Conference leader in South Alabama. Coastal gained the early momentum when
Sunny Sigurvinsdottir found the back of the net off a corner kick that the defense misplayed. The Jags evened the match at 1-1 when the Sun Belt's leading scorer Briana Morris gathered a Gracie Wilson cross in the middle of the box.
The Chants would go up 2-1 on a failed defensive clear off a second corner kick when
Gabby Smychynsky reeled in the ball and booted it past the diving Jaguar goalkeeper in the 77th minute. In the 81st minute, South Alabama would tie the match up at 2-2. A controversial goal as the Chant's goalkeeper was unable to hold onto the ball after a diving save and allowed Olivia Wilkes, who appeared to be offsides, to put the ball in the back of the net.
Morris notched her 12th goal of the season for the game-winner in the 107th minute after dribbling through the Coastal defense and scoring off a partially blocked shot that found its way into the back of the net.
