Chanticleers Look To Remain Perfect in Sun Belt Play with Road Trip to App State

Coastal defeated the Mountaineers on Wednesday in four sets

CONWAY, S.C. – Coming off a big victory at home in front of a record crowd of 1,757 at The HTC Center against Appalachian State on Wednesday night, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleer volleyball team will travel to Boone, N.C. as they look to remain perfect in Sun Belt Conference play.

Coastal all-time versus Appalachian State

CCU holds a 5-2 all-time win-loss record over the Mountaineers. Prior to Wednesday's match, App State took the both of the 2018 matches, 

On Oct 19, 2018, CCU lost in Boone, N.C., in straight sets as then-freshman Anett Nemeth led the Chants with 11 kills with Kyla Manning adding eight while Sara Boothe dished out 29 assists and Sydney Alvis had 11 digs.

In the rematch just two days later, the two teams went the distance as the Mountaineers took the match by a 3-2 (25-21, 18-25,25-20, 20-25, 16-14) count. CCU had three players in double-digit kills: Manning (20), Nemeth (19), and Ani Bozdeva (13).

Coastal Carolina

The Chanticleers currently sit in first-place of the Sun Belt with an unblemished 7-0 record and have a 17-2 overall season record.

CCU knocked off App State in four sets by the score of 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-22. Sophomore Anett Nemeth led Coastal offensively for the third-straight match as she had a match-high 20 kills. Junior Kyla Manning pitched in with 11 kills.

Coming into this week, the Chanticleers are averaging an NCAA-best 2.19 aces/set. In Wednesday's match versus App State, Coastal Carolina racked up a match-high eight team service aces with freshman Brigitta Petrenko having a match-high four. The Eger, Hungary native leads the Sun Belt Conference service ace category with 42 on the season. 

As a team, Coastal Carolina had 12 team blocks in the four-set win. Freshman Ilse Sinnige had a match-high six blocks, all solo, and continues to be one of the defensive stalwarts at the net for CCU this season with her 27.5 total blocks.

Appalachian State

The Mountaineers' four-set loss moves them to 9-11 overall on the season and  5-2 in conference play.

On Wednesday night, Appalachian State had a hitting percentage of .140 (43-of-136). Emma Longley and Victoria Wilform were the lone two hitters to have a double-digit kill-night with Longley having a team-high 11 kills and Wilform tallying 10 kills with a hitting percentage of .391 (10-of-33).

Setter Sam Bickley had the only double-double of the match for either team as she had a team-high 33 assists and 11 digs.
