BOONE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team scored four goals in the opening half on its way to a 4-2 win at Sun Belt leading Appalachian State.
Tsiki Ntsabeleng led the Chants attack scoring two goals and adding an assist in the Chants first conference win of the season.
CCU had been having trouble finding the back of the net over the past few matches, but didn't take long to get on the scoreboard when Ntsabeleng found a streaking
Claudio Repetto in the seventh minute of the match to get CCU on the scoreboard.
Ntsabeleng took matters into his own hands in the 20
th minute when he had a breakaway down the left sideline and cut back to the middle of the field past two Mountaineers into the box. His blast from the front of the net hit the back of the net for a 2-0 Coastal lead.
The Chants put the game away with two more goals within less than three minutes of each other.
Tyrone Mondi picked up an assist in the 32
nd minute when he team up with Ntsabeleng for the Chants third goal. Just 2:47 later
Morten Timm, who had been battling injuries over the past two weeks, got into the scoring column with his first goal of the season in the 34
th minute.
The second half started out slow for CCU as Appalachian State turned up the heat on their offensive end of the field. Alex Hernandez scored App's first goal in the 48
th minute on a double assist from Juan Hernandez and Camden Holbrook.
It only took forty seconds for the Mountaineers to find the back of the net again as Holbrook picked up the goal on an assist from Parker Cross.
CCU kept the Mountaineers in check for the final 40 minutes to finish the 4-2 win. The victory was the first Sun Belt win of the season for CCU and runs their record to 5-6-2 overall and 1-1 in conference. App State came into the match leading the conference and stands at 9-3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
App State finished the game with 12 shots with four on goal, while CCU finished with nine shots and six on goal.
The Chants will be on the road for their final regular season road match Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the College of Charleston. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
