Chanticleers to Wrap Up 2019 Regular Season on the Road

Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team to travel to Arkansas State and ULM this weekend

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will pay a visit to Arkansas State on Friday, Oct. 25, before closing out the 2019 regular season at ULM on Oct. 27 with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. ET and 2 p.m. ET, respectively.
 
On the season, the Chanticleers have an overall record of 5-8-2 and are 3-4-1 in Sun Belt action with conference wins over Troy, Appalachian State, and Georgia State.
 
CCU's junior midfielder Sunny Sigurvinsdottir paces the offensive attack with six goals while senior forward Hannah Miller is second on the team with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Newcomer Megan Brouse with two goals and two assists is third with senior Gabby Smychynsky having found the back of the net twice currently sits in fifth in points on the squad.
 
Defensively, both Rylee Atteberry and Ky Hudson have seen action between the pipes for the Chants. Smychynsky, Mackenzie Cherry, and Kylie Bostick hold down the backline of the defense.
 
Last time out for Coastal, the Chants fell to Texas State 2-0 on the campus of CCU. The defending Sun Belt Player of the Year Kaylee Davis scored the first goal of the match and eventual game-winner in the third minute, while the defending Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Heather Martin earned the shutout win by making three saves off shots from Sigurvinsdottir, Mackenzie Gibbs, and Santana Pressley in the first half.
 
The Bobcats picked up an insurance goal in the second period to make it 2-0 when Jessica Pikoff scored her first goal of the season with a soft lob catching the Chanticleer defense out of position in the 72nd minute.
 
ARKANSAS STATE vs. COASTAL
 
The Red Wolves enter Friday's contest with an 8-4-3 overall record and a 4-1-3 record in conference play. Arkansas State has outscored their opponents 21-13 on the season.
 
With 19 points, Sarah Sodoma leads the offensive attack for the Red Wolves. Sodoma has tallied seven goals and five assists while Sophia Restrepo has scored eight points on four goals. Defensively, Megan McClure has made 54 saves while allowing just 12 goals on the season.
 
Last time out for Arkansas State, the Red Wolves battled to a double-overtime 0-0 draw with App State on Sunday, Oct 20. McClure was impressive, making seven saves, as Appalachian State's Kerry Eagleston registered four to keep the game scoreless.
 
ARKANSAS STATE vs. COASTAL ALL-TIME SERIES
 
The Chanticleers hold a 3-1 all-time record over the Red Wolves. CCU picked up a2-1 overtime victory at the CCU Soccer Stadium to close out the 2018 season. After a scoreless opening stanza, ASU's Hailey Furio opened the scoring in the 51st minute. CCU's Miller evened the match beating the Red Wolves goalkeeper from 30 yards out. In the overtime period, senior Lauren Dabner scored the game-winner after gathering the rebound off an Abby Gashel shot and fired the ball into in the back of the net.
 
ULM vs. COASTAL
The Warhawks enter the weekend with a seven-game losing streak for a 3-11-2 record overall and 0-8 in conference play.
 
ULM's offense is paced by Taylor Altieri and Melissa Taft with six points each on three goals apiece while a trio of Warhawks has tallied four points each. On the defensive side, goalkeeper Rian Kasner has started 11 of the 16 matches, making 54 saves on the season.
 
ULM fell 2-1 to Georgia Southern in its last outing. The Eagles scored the first goal of the match when Frida Brattum beat the defense in the 27th minute. The Warhawks evened the contest when McKenzie Rizqi scored her first goal of the season in the 69th minute. Georgia Southern's Karin Winka scored the winning tally in the 85th minute to keep ULM winless in conference play.
 
ULM vs. COASTAL ALL-TIME SERIES
 
Coastal has a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Warhawks. Last season, the Chanticleers picked up a 1-0 victory when Heston Neal beat the goalkeeper with a penalty kick in the 37th minute for the lone tally of the match. Defensively, CCU's goalkeeper Eva Knapstein made six saves to preserve the shutout victory.
