Chanticleers to take on Texas State and UTA in Sun Belt Play

Coastal volleyball tussles with Sun Belt West leader Texas State on Friday

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's volleyball team looks to continue their undefeated conference-winning streak this weekend as they host Sun Belt West competition. The Chanticleers will start the weekend as they take on the west-leading Texas State Bobcats on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET and will wrap-up the action on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET against the UT Arlington Mavericks.

History versus Texas State and UT Arlington

Texas State holds leads the all-time lead versus the Chanticleers at 3-2. The Bobcats took last year's meeting in four sets, but CCU's Anett Nemeth had a double-double with a match-high 18 kills and 11 assists.

The Chanticleers hold the all-time series lead versus the Mavericks at 2-1. A year ago in Arlington, Texas, the Mavs would secure their only win in the series behind Zhanelle Geathers' team-high 11 kills.

Coastal Carolina

The Chanticleers took both matches versus the Appalachian State Mountaineers a week ago to give themselves a two-match lead over the Troy Trojans with an 8-0  Sun Belt East record and an 18-2 overall.

On Tuesday, the duo of sophomore Anett Nemeth and freshman Brigitta Petrenko picked up Sun Belt Conference weekly awards for the second consecutive week.

Nemeth earned her second consecutive and her third overall Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week in 2019 as she tallied 38 kills and five blocks.

Petrenko picked up her seventh overall conference award of her rookie season, her second-straight weekly honor, and fourth overall Sun Belt Freshman of the Week award.

Both Hungarian natives continue to be leading performers, not just in the Sun Belt, but also nationally.

Petrenko's five aces last week have given her 43 (.58/set) on the season, the best in the conference, and seventh in the NCAA. The Chants are the nation's leading serving team with 2.24 aces per set.

Nemeth ranks 24th nationally and first in the Sun Belt with 4.33 kills per set. The Pecel, Hungary native is Coastal's team leader with a .345 hitting percentage. As a team, Coastal ranks seventh in the NCAA with a .284 mark hitting percentage.

Texas State

The Bobcats picked up wins versus Troy and South Alabama to run their winning streak to six matches. Texas State is in first-place of the  Sun Belt West as they have a record of 8-1 in the conference and a 16-7 overall mark.

On Friday versus Troy, the Bobcats' team hitting percentage of .347 was a key to their victory on the night. All-Sun Belt performer Cheyenne Huskey led the Bobcats with 18 kills and a .552 hitting percentage in the straight-sets win.

Texas State took down the Jaguars on Saturday night behind a team hitting percentage of .372. Three different Bobcats were in double figures in the four-set victory as Janell Fitzgerald led her team with a season-high 18 kills.

UT Arlington

The Mavericks are currently on a four-match losing streak as they dropped a pair of matches last weekend to South Alabama and Troy. UTA is in fourth-place in the Sun Belt West with an overall record of 11-10 and 3-6 in Sun Belt play.

UT Arlington dropped Friday's match in four sets (25-22, 19-25, 20-25, 19-25) to South Alabama. The Mavs outside hitter Kylie Jedlicka had a match-high 20 kills and 11 digs, but it wasn't enough to propel her team to the match win. South Alabama held Arlington to a .100 hitting percentage as they (South Alabama) were able to hit .265.

In the loss to Troy on Saturday, Madison Hill led UTA with 14 kills, five blocks, and a hitting percentage of .440 as UTA was able to pick up a set two win, but would eventually fall in four sets, 22-25, 25-13, 16-25, and 23-25 to the Trojans.
