Men's Soccer Falls to Georgia State on Late Goal

Final Box (pdf)

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team lost an important Sun Belt Conference match 1-0 to Georgia State.

The lost came despite the Chanticleers controlling most of the day's action and actually outshot the Panthers 15-5 in the game.

Panthers' goalkeeper Paul Tyson makes it tough to score standing 6'-7" and had three saves, but the Chants had plenty of chances to find the back of the net. CCU had four shots on goal with Tyson out of position and Panther defenders were able to block those shots while standing at the goal.

Neither team could find the net until Georgia State ran a set play off a corner kick, their only corner kick of the second half and Alex Summerfield was able to place the corner kick towards the back post and a streaking Tristan Jumeau came from the back unmarked and kicked the ball into the net before the ball hit the ground with less than 10 minutes left in the game. It would be the only goal of the game.

Tyrone Mondi led CCU's offensive attack with four shots, two of those were shots on goal. Danny Cabrera had two shots while nine other players had shots during the game.

The 1-0 score was the seventh time this season that has been the final score. CCU is now 2-5 in those one-goal game.

The win pushes Georgia State to 8-3-3 on the season, and was their first Sun Belt (1-2) win of the season. The loss stops CCU's recent two-game winning streak and the Chants now stand 6-7-2 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

Coastal will be back in action Sunday Nov. 3 when Howard visits Conway with the game set to begin at 2 p.m.
