CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team is set to travel to Arkansas and Louisiana to take on Sun Belt Conference foes Little Rock and Louisiana this weekend on Oct. 4 and Oct. 6, respectively. The Chanticleers enter the weekend with a two-game winning streak and sit right behind conference leaders South Alabama, Arkansas State, and Troy.
On the season, Coastal has an overall record of 4-5-1 and is 2-1 in Sun Belt play with wins over Troy and Appalachian State.
The Chants are led offensively by midfielder
Sunny Sigurvinsdottir with four goals for eight points, forward
Hannah Miller with seven points on three goals and one assist, and
Megan Brouse with two goals and two assists.
Defensively,
Mackenzie Cherry and
Callie Hawkins hold down the backline along with goalkeeper
Ky Hudson. Hudson picked up the last two starts; both conference wins while holding a 1.18 goals-against average.
The last time out for Coastal, Miller tallied the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 win over App State.
Mackenzie Gibbs found the Lenexa, Kan. native, who collected the pass around a defender and put a shot in the back of the net to the right of a diving App State goalkeeper. Hudson scored her first collegiate clean sheet needing to make just one save on the day while facing a total of nine shots.
LITTLE ROCK vs. COASTAL
Little Rock enters the match with an overall record of 3-5-5 and is winless in conference action at 0-1-3. The Trojans offense is led by Julia Edholm with seven points on three goals and one assist and Morgan Smocovich with five assists. Defensively, Julia Curatolo has spent the bulk of the time in goal making 42 saves on the season with a 3-4-5 record.
The last time out for Little Rock ended in a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Louisiana with both teams scoring in the 84th minute within 13 seconds of each other.
LITTLE ROCK vs. COASTAL ALL-TIME SERIES
The two teams have met for a total of four matches with the Chanticleers holding a 2-0-2 advantage over the Trojans after a 2-1 win in the 2018 season. In a game that was initially scheduled to be played at the CCU Soccer Stadium but was moved to the campus of Kennesaw State due to the implications of Hurricane Florence impacting Conway, S.C., Little Rock took an early 1-0 lead in the 12th minute with Coastal leveling the match in the 71st minute off a Sigurvinsdottir penalty kick.
Baylee Price would get the game-winner in the 82nd minute for the win to open Sun Belt play.
LOUISIANA vs. COASTAL
The Ragin' Cajuns enter the weekend with a winless record in Sun Belt action at 0-1-2 and an overall record of 4-4-3 on the season. The Louisiana offense is led by Karleen Bedre with 10 points on three goals and four assists and Skyla Sykes with three goals and one assist for seven points. Defensively, Mackenzie Lee has tallied 38 saves with three shutouts and a 4-4-3 record.
The last time out for the Ragin' Cajuns ended in a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Trojans with both teams scoring in the 84th minute within 13 seconds of each other.
LOUISIANA vs. COASTAL ALL-TIME SERIES
The Chanticleers own a 3-0-1 all-time record against Louisiana. CCU picked up a 3-0 victory at the CCU Soccer Stadium in 2018 with goals by Cherry,
