Chants XC On The Road at the Paul Short Run

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina Chanticleer cross country team will be in action on Saturday at the Paul Short Run on the campus Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., for the first time since the 2013 season.
Last Friday, the Chanticleer men finished 16th out of 43 teams at the Queen City Invite 8k in Charlotte, N.C. Junior Michael Pieterse earned last week's Sun Belt Runner of the Week award as he was the top Coastal Carolina harrier at the McAlpine Park event. The Myrtle Beach, S.C., native clocked a time of 27:07 and finished 63rd-place out of 332 runners.
The freshman foursome of Dustin Chambers, Heath Olivieri, Eduardo Perez, and Monroe Thompkins all set personal-best marks in their second career 8k start.
For the women, they are coming off a 25th-place finish at the Queen City Invite 6k. Freshmen Grace Cole and Isabel Debari paced the team with personal-best times. Cole, the Winfield, W.V. native crossed the finish line fastest at 20.22 (90th) and the Weehawken, N.J. native, Debari, came in at 20:54 for 113th-place.
In history at the Paul Short, the best time from the Coastal women has come from Julia Viellehner in 2006's 6k with a time of 20:33. In 2009, Kyle Kling recorded the best result in CCU men's cross country history with a time 24:27 on the 8k course.
