MONROE, La. - On Friday, the Coastal Carolina women's volleyball team improved their overall record to 13-2 and 3-0 in Sun Belt Conference play with a straight-sets win (25-18, 25-22, 25-22) over ULM at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Sophomore Anett Nemeth led the way on the night with 12 kills and eight digs.
In set one, the Chants were sparked by an 8-0 run to jump out to a 20-9 lead over the Warhawks. ULM returned the favor by cutting the lead to five, 23-18, as they rallied off six consecutive points. It wasn't enough as Coastal was able to hold on to win the next two points to take the set 25-18. Nemeth led the way in set one with five kills.
In set two, with the Chanticleers at set point, 24-16, Monroe rallied off six consecutive points with the help of three straight service aces by Albany Schaeffer. ULM wasn't able to keep the streak going as CCU took set two (25-22) on the service error from Schaeffer.
A service ace by junior Kyla Manning gave the Chanticleers an early 3-1 lead in set three but ULM won the next 12 of 19 points to give the home team a 13-10 lead. The Warhawks' Mikaela Worley had three kills during the span and helped the Warhawks hold the lead at 21-20 with a set-high six kills.
Worley and her ULM teammates weren't able to hold off the Chanticleers as they lost the final five of six points to drop the set 22-25.
Coastal held the Warhawks to just a .120 hitting percentage on 117 attempts. Freshman Ilse Sinnige and junior Hannah Emerson had 1.5 blocks apiece.
Chanticleer freshman setter Brigitta Petrenko dished out a match-high 33 assists and freshman libero Lina Perugini dug a match-high 21 balls.
The Chants travel to Lafayette, La. on Saturday to take on the Ragin' Cajuns with first serve set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
