BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Coastal Carolina cross country teams were in action on Saturday at the 46th annual Paul Short Run at Lehigh University.
Women's Results
The Chanticleer women finished 32nd out of 44 teams in the Women's College Brown 6k as they had an average time of 23:43.
Junior Lisha van Onselen led all Chanticleer women harriers on the day as she finished 49 out of 370 with a time of 22:09.00.
Freshman Ashley Rulison clocked a time of 22:55.60 for 144th place in her first-ever 6k start.
Alyssa LeClaire from Peachtree, Ga., finished two-tenths of a second behind (22:55.80) Rulison as she placed 145th. The senior finished the course and knocked off 9.7 seconds from her previous personal-best that was set at the 2017 High Point VertCross Invitational.
Freshman Grace Cole finished the 6k event with a time of 23:43.90 (195th).
Senior Alexis Carpenter came across the finish line in 254th place with a personal-best mark of 24:20.90. The native of Crown Point, Ind., knocked off 11.5 seconds off her previous personal record set at the 2018 NCAA East Cross Country Regional.
Rounding out the field for the Chanticleer women: Isabel Debari (25:23.10 – 266th), Kelsey Luther (27:09.30 – 276th), and Rebecca Lehman (27:41.00 – 278th).
Suny Geneseo's Genny Corcoran took first-place in the women's race with a time of 20:42.60.
Men's Results
The top-five finishers for the Coastal men all set personal-best times on the day in the 392-runner Men's College Gold 8k field. As a team, the Chant men averaged a time of 26:33 in the event and placed 45th overall.
Andrew Southard led the Coastal men on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course as he placed 264 out of 392 runners. The Ajax, Ontario native finished with a time 25:48.40. Southard broke his previous best by 55.90 (26:44.30) at the 2018 Winthrop Invite.
Michael Pieterse is coming off winning last week's Sun Belt Runner of the Week award and finished in 288th place. The Myrtle Beach, S.C., native crossed the finish line at 26:17.20, as he knocked off 25.39 of his previous personal-best set at the 2018 Sun Belt Cross Country Championships.
Andrew Avery came across the finish line in the 291st position as he clocked a time of 26:22.90. The native of McKenney, Va., slashed 21.39 off his personal best that was set last week at the Queen City Invite.
A pair of freshmen: Heath Olivieri and Dustin Chambers also slashed time from their best-ever marks that were also set last week in Charlotte, N.C.
Olivieri of Bolton, Conn., erased 1:39.09 off his time from last week to finish 301st (26:59.69) and Chambers, the East Greenbush, N.Y., native came in two spots behind Olivieri and took roughly 32 seconds off his personal-best time (27:13.90) from a week ago.
Rounding out the field for the Chanticleers: Robert Gunia (27:19.90), Doug Mullen (28:08.80), Matthew Evans (28:55.60), Jerardo Perez (29:04.70), and Monroe Thompkins (29:59.70).
New Hampshire's Nicholas Sevilla-Connelly took first-place in the men's race with a time of 24:26.90.
The Chanticleers will return to action on Friday when they return to Charlotte, N.C. for the second time in three weeks for the Royals Challenge.
