CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will take its first road trip of the season as the Chants will hit the road to take on in-state opponent Wofford College. The contest between the Chanticleers and Terriers is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 17, with a 2 p.m. tip-off at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
Coastal is 2-0 on the season while Wofford currently sits at 0-3 with all three losses being on the road.
ABOUT COASTAL
CCU's 69.5 points per game average is led by newcomer
Zacharyia Esmon who is averaging 20 points per game. The Walters State (Tenn.) Community College transfer has had identical stat lines with 20 points and five rebounds in both games on the season. She is aided in scoring by seniors
Naheria Hamilton (12.5 ppg),
DJ Williams (12.0 ppg) and
Torrie Cash (11.0 ppg) who are all averaging in double figures.
COASTAL'S LAST TIME OUT
The Chants picked up their second victory on the year with a 63-54 win over the UNCG Spartans last Sunday. CCU was led by Esmon who finished the game with 20 points and five rebounds. Esmon would get scoring support from senior guards Williams and Cash who finished with 17 and 12 points, respectively.
The Spartans closed to within 59-54 in the final minute before Coastal sealed the victory by hitting 4-of-4 free throws in the final 20 seconds of the game.
ABOUT WOFFORD
The Terriers are averaging 66.7 points a game with Chloe Wanink carrying the load at 21.3 points per game while Da'Ja Green is adding 12.7 points per contest. Jamari McDavid and Lilly Hatton do most of the clean up on the board with 24 and 18 rebounds, respectively.
WOFFORD'S LAST TIME OUT
Wofford dropped its last contest 67-53 to Gardner-Webb to remain winless on the season. Wanink led all players with 23 points while Hatton had a career-high nine rebounds and Green had a game-high five assists.
COASTAL vs. WOFFORD SERIES
CCU won the first nine contests and hold a 10-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Chanticleers lone loss in the series came in the 2016-17 season before rebounding in the 2017-18 season for a 67-51 win.
In the 2017 meeting, Coastal scored 49 points in the second half as
Jas Adams recorded a double-double (14 points and 12 rebounds) to lead four Chants in double figures.
Naheria Hamilton added 11 points while
Kaylin West and Williams chipped in with 10 points apiece.
CCU shot 44 percent from the floor while the Terriers hit at a 30 percent clip.
