CONWAY –
Adriaan Wildschutt and
Nadeel Wildschutt will compete at Saturday's 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championships on the campus of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind., as both Coastal Carolina Chanticleer runners look to be the best in the nation.
This year's field consists of 38 runners that qualified with either automatic or at-large bids.
Older brother Adriaan qualified for the NCAA Championship race at the 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional in Charlottesville, Va., on Friday, Nov. 15. The sophomore was the top finisher for the Coastal Carolina men as he placed fifth overall in the men's 10k event. His time of 29.47.50 was a personal-best to earn himself NCAA All-Southeast Region honors.
Just a day later, Nadeel was selected by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee as an at-large bid for the year's final race of the season. The younger of the two Wildschutts also earned NCAA Southeast All-Region honors with a seventh-place finish time of 29:51.20.
Along with Coastal Hall of Famer Terah Kipichris in 2002 and 2003, Nadeel is the second Chanticleer in school history to make the NCAA Championship race two times in their respective careers.
In 2017, the Ceres, South Africa native placed 28th overall (29:52.00) to become the first Chanticleer male to earn All-American honors.
The Wildschutts are two of the 16 runners of the 38-individual runner qualifiers that have sub-30 minute times on a 10-kilometer course.
Adriaan's aforementioned personal-best time occurred on the same course Nadeel's personal-best time (29:03.40) occurred just two years prior at the 2017 Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships.
The men's championship race is slated to start at 12:15 p.m. ET
